Additionally, the cash-only policy and minimum spend are important considerations for visitors. Overall, Chikujō Sō is regarded as a charming hidden gem for those seeking a peaceful, authentic tea house experience in Kyoto.
Best mochi I’ve had so far in Kyoto - incredibly delicate texture and delicious taste. Such a special experience sitting in a private room overlooking a garden. Comfortable seating and great decor too. The owner was so kind - thank you!!
This is a place you go to for atmosphere, not value. It's located in a converted home within a residential neighborhood. It has traditional tatami mats and a garden. Service is very good. Ordered ice cream and matcha tea. The ice cream was good, but it tasted like normal vanilla ice cream with matcha on top. Matcha tea was very strong and very little. I don't think the food itself is worth the price; it's better value when you include the venue.
A hidden gem behind the Inari gates. Google maps does not mark this as a tea house, but I would describe it as such. You'll probably be the only tourist at this place. Friendly service, high quality food and drinks in an intimate setting. Highly recommend.
In love with this sweet cafe! The owner/person who served us was so kind, and the desserts were delicious. We got coffee, matcha tea, pound cake, sweets, and ice cream. It is cash only so you must bring cash, and I believe there is a 1,500 yen min per person. Still, absolutely worth it. You are taken to your own individual room, and it is such a peaceful hidden cafe.
Definitely not worth missing this place! We randomly came across this beautiful little house while walking, the host was so friendly, the food was amazing!
I went here before heading to Tofukuji Temple. It is beautiful and feels like you are eating in a tiny museum. The garden is especially lush. The matcha is ceremonial. I was served an adorable mochi shaped like a bunny. I was seated in a private room and spent a good hour journaling beside a view of the garden. There is a ¥1500 minimum per person, and the portions are small but carefully prepared and presented. It was a little chilly inside, as I visited in January. It is a very special place with a long history.
